A embarcação foi construída pelo estaleiro Uljanik' Brodogradiliste dd, Pula, Croácia, casco nr. 429, em março de 1999, como "altair", sob encomenda do armador SCF Novoship JSC, Novorossiisk, Rússia.
Em março de 2011 foi adquirido pelo armadorHanseatic Lloyd SchiffahrtGmbH & Co. KG, Bremem, Alemanha, renomeado MCT Altair e afretado aoarmador Mega Chemicals International AG (Mega Chemical Tankers), Zurich, Suiça.
