O AHTS é uma embarcação polivalente, especializada em operações do tipo offshore, sendo utilizada em operações de manobras de âncoras e no posicionamento de plataformas, reboques oceânicos de grandes estruturas e embarcações (a grande maioria de movimentações oceânicas de plataformas de petróleo e FPSO´s são realizadas pelos AHTS, ao invés de RbAM), socorro e salvamento, combate a incêndios, transporte de suprimentos e cargas múltiplas, tais como equipamentos para perfuração e prospecção de petróleo, tubulações, contêiners, correntes, possuindo ainda tanques específicos para transporte de combustível, água potável, drill water, cimento, barita, betonita, slops, entre outros. Sua presença é notada em todas as regiões onde há prospecção de petróleo no mar.
Seu casco foi construído pelo estaleiro Fincantieri-Cantieri Navale Italiani S.p.A., Riva Trigoso, Itália, casco nr. 6153, sendo lançado ao mar em no dia 04/07/2008 e foi transferido para o estaleiro Fincantieri-Cantieri Navale Italiani S.p.A., em La Spezia, Itália, onde foi finalizado em setembro de 2008 e entregue ao armador Finarge Armamento Genovese Srl, Genova/GE, Itália
(Rimorchiatori Riuniti SpA, Genova/GE, Itália).
A enmbarcação multi-propósito de 2.929 dwt, 76,50 m de comprimento, 17,50 m de boca, 8,00 m de pontal, 6,77 m de calado máximo carregado.
